Looking for some interesting activities to complete while exploring? These are some small creative exercises that can be done on your own or with friends while you get to know an area better or keep track of your adventures.

Colour / Shape Hunting
A photography exercise where you assign specific colours or shapes and create an album of photos filled with them. It’s also a mindfulness activity, that enhances focus and observation skills. I feel like I started to notice way more of the street art around my home city.
Shown are my examples from a colour hunt around Auckland City. You can do this activity anywhere but some places I recommend are busy city streets or art galleries and museums

Create a Travel Diary
Write something about your journey each day, you could even search up a list of writing prompts through Pinterest. If you want to break up the text, you can add your own photos and sketches.
If you’re doing this activity with friends, you can also share the journal and pass it along to someone new each day.
Junk Journaling / Scrapbooking
Similar to the idea above, but more using more physical items. I like to take a clear folder on my trips to store items like tickets, stickers, coasters and brochures that I later put together in my scrapbook. You could even do this before a trip and create a vision board for your trip.
Bonus: Hunt for different textures and create stamps for this using air dry polymer clay and a stamp pad.
Geocaching
Join the world’s largest scavenger hunt community! Finding caches will require a bit of puzzle solving and searching in physical areas, so if you enjoy escape rooms, you’ll probably enjoy this too.
There’s free and paid membership options to keep track of the caches you find but in most cases you’ll want to bring a pen to make your mark in the logs that can be found in each one.
Thanks for joining me on my journeys!
I’ll be posting a lot of my results from these activities on my pinterest board – Jayney’s Journal
I’ll be updating this list as I complete more fun activities as I travel, but feel free to comment your own ideas I should try out below!
